Plasma injection is an innovative regenerative treatment in which concentrated plasma from the patient's own blood, rich in growth factors, is injected directly into damaged tissue. This treatment uses the body's own healing powers and can be used for a range of orthopaedic complaints.
How does plasma injection work?
For a plasma injection, a small amount of your own blood is taken first. The blood is prepared in a special centrifuge in order to obtain plasma with concentrated growth factors. These growth factors stimulate the body's own healing processes and support the regeneration of damaged tissue.
The prepared plasma is then injected directly into the affected tissue. The growth factors in the plasma activate the body's own stem cells and encourage the formation of new, healthy tissue. This natural method is particularly effective with tendon injuries, joint wear and chronic pain.
The treatment is carried out as a day case and is very well tolerated. As only the body's own material is used, allergic reactions are ruled out. The injection is given under sterile conditions and can be carried out under local anaesthetic where needed.
The number of treatments depends on your individual symptoms. Typically 3 to 5 treatments at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks are recommended. The effect usually sets in within a few weeks and can last several months.
What we treat
Plasma injection can be used successfully for a range of orthopaedic complaints. Our experienced doctors develop an individual treatment plan for every patient.
Tendon injuries
With tendon injuries and inflammation, plasma injection can speed up healing and improve what the tendon can cope with. Particularly effective with chronic tendon problems such as tennis elbow or Achilles tendinopathy.
Joint wear
With osteoarthritis and joint wear, the treatment can support the regeneration of cartilage and relieve pain. The growth factors support the healing of the damaged tissue.
Sports injuries
After sports injuries, plasma injection can speed up recovery and support the return to sport. The treatment encourages tissue repair and improves healing.
Chronic pain
With chronic pain, the treatment can reduce inflammation and improve the symptoms. Particularly effective with joint and back pain.
