A debut to mark an anniversary: to celebrate 25 years, Sportklinik Freiburg held the Black Forest Ortho Summit for the first time in July. With the new symposium, held at the Diakoniekrankenhaus Freiburg, the clinic brought together leading figures from sports orthopaedics and joint replacement – and laid the foundation for a series of meetings that is to continue.

Around 120 guests from sports orthopaedics, trauma surgery and physiotherapy used the occasion to discuss current developments and to take new ideas back into their clinical and therapeutic work. The programme was divided into three blocks and offered both scientific talks and practical insights.

The opening block focused on the upper limb – from the shoulder to the hand. The participants then moved across to Sportklinik Freiburg, where lunch together offered plenty of opportunity to talk shop. The programme was rounded off by practical insights into modern treatment approaches, the fitting of orthoses and new return-to-sport concepts.

The afternoon turned to sports orthopaedics. Alongside current treatment concepts, participants were given an insight into therapeutic practice in elite and in recreational sport. The closing block dealt with current strategies in treating conditions of the knee and of the foot.

With a great deal of professional input, new contacts and a lot of positive feedback, the first Black Forest Ortho Summit came to an end. The successful debut was a particular highlight of the anniversary year at Sportklinik Freiburg, and at the same time the start of a series of events that is to be continued.

Our particular thanks go to all the speakers who helped shape the varied programme, and to our partners, who made the Black Forest Ortho Summit possible. You will find more about the programme of this year’s symposium here, and a photo gallery here.
